Scot Facer Proctor is the publisher and co-founder of Meridian Magazine. He was raised in Rolla, Missouri, the youngest son of Paul Dean and Martha Facer Proctor. In his youth he was given the extraordinary opportunity to live in Ankara, Turkey for two different years and this has completely marked his life and his love. During that time he traveled extensively, studying and following closely in the footsteps of the Apostle Paul.
This also began a lifetime of traveling to the Holy Land with his first trip there just 8 weeks before the Six Day War in 1967. These experiences have led him to a lifetime of immersion in the ancient world and the holy scriptures. He and his wife, Maurine, continue to spend a great deal of time in the Middle East and the Holy Land–traveling there at least once a year.
After serving a mission to Germany, Scot graduated from Brigham Young University with a degree in motion picture and television production and minors in political science and German. He received his master’s degree from Utah State University in instructional technology with emphasis in audience analysis and product development. He also completed two years of postgraduate studies at the University of Utah in international development working closely under the mentoring hand of renowned humanitarian, Dr. James B. Mayfield. This friendship would lead to long association with CHOICE Humanitarian and major projects in Egypt, India, Kenya and Nepal.
Scot is a professional photographer specializing in the photo-documentation of sacred sites throughout the world. He and his wife Maurine are the authors or editors of over a dozen books including The Revised and Enhanced History of the Prophet Joseph Smith by His Mother; The Autobiography of Parley P. Pratt, Revised and Enhanced Edition; Witness of the Light, A Photographic Journey in the Footsteps of the American Prophet Joseph Smith; Source of the Light, A Witness and Testimony of Jesus Christ, the Savior and Redeemer of All; Light from the Dust, A Photographic Exploration into the Ancient World of the Book of Mormon and The Gathering, Mormon Pioneers on the Trail to Zion.
The Proctors taught Institute part-time for more than 17 years. They regularly lead Church History tours in the United States and the British Isles; Holy Land Tours and various tours and cruises all over the world. They are currently serving as senior missionaries (we had to prove it by our ID’s—“Really, we are old enough to serve!”) in the Puerto Rico San Jose Mission. They are the parents of eleven children and grandparents of 28. He and Maurine normally live in Alpine, Utah.
