I got a Facebook message tonight from a dear friend I grew up with in Missouri, Sylvia Law Hammond. She is now the Stake Relief Society President in the Ephrata Washington Stake. I am sure most of you are aware of the Carlton Complex Fire in Washington. This is the largest fire in the states history. Already more than 380 square miles (984 square kilometers) have burned. The situation is grave even with 2,000 firefighters on the ground and in the air, the fire is only perhaps 16% contained.
Let me get to the immediate needsthis is where you can help right nowtoday. Please.
Sister Hammond has the responsibility to gather donations of:
1) diapers (all sizes)
2) wet wipes (including the larger size ones as they are being used for ‘dry showers’ for adults and firefighters.
3) baby formula
4) new socks
5) underwear
These are not coming from any other source but whatever Sister Hammond can find. She is suggesting that if you are members of Amazon Prime that you order through them for speed and shipping costs (the lowest cost or no cost). Heres where we can send these items:

All the stakes in the area have various assignments. This one of Sister Hammonds is one of the most difficult and the needs are very high.
Sylvia reported to me: “Only a few members were displaced in our Stake, but many members of other faiths in our Stake boundaries are displaced. People are living in schools with no power and no safe water. The Wenatchee Stake, and the Moses Lake Stake are also very involved.“
I asked her about other aid that is coming. She said, “Salt Lake is sending tents and bedding. The Red Cross is taking care of water and the Salvation Army just sent a big shipment of clothes. The Priesthood is gathering up electrical generators and, water trucks and will be doing lots of clean up labor through LDS helping hands.“
I asked her what the biggest challenges the people are facing. She said, “The problem is that homes still standing have no power (the lines were burned) and no water. Its a mess and it is still raging. The weather has been a little cooler today and we have possibilities of thunderstormswhich can also bring mudslides if the rain comes too quickly.”
Thank you for your immediate response. We have thousands of Meridian readers in Washington, many of whom are deeply affected by the Carlton Complex Fire. Again, please send a generous supply of the above items to:

"These are not coming from any other source but whatever Sister Hammond can find. " This sounds like all the donations have to come through this site. Living in WA, as a stake we have been asked to donate the same items and they have been delivered. I know more is needed, but it is important that people know that the church is doing more than sending tents and bedding. We have also been asked for generators, and this weekend the members will be headed there to help with the cleanup.
