Isaac Calvert is Assistant Professor in the Department of Educational
Leadership and Foundations at Brigham Young University. He teaches courses in the history and philosophy of education with a special emphasis on religiously-influenced teaching and learning methods. His research focuses on the nature of holiness and how different cultures treat teaching and learning as a sacred activity. After receiving his bachelor’s degree in music and a PhD in Instructional Psychology from BYU, he studied Education, Philosophy and Religion at the University of Oxford where he graduated in July of 2018. He is especially interested in combining his prior creative experience as a musician with his research as an educationalist by pursuing interdisciplinary studies with colleagues in dance, visual art and music in order to understand the sacred dimensions of teaching and learning from fresh perspectives.
