I love a good folk tale.

Google Lake Baikal and go to it's Wikipedia page and then scroll down to Historical Traditions and read about Christ visiting that region.

If anyone is still reading comments ;) I just want to add some comments to the comments. We served three missions in Eastern Europe and never heard about this painting, which I believe is in the St Petersburg museum of art. So we really appreciate this article. We do know, for certain, that every one of the lost tribes is represented in the patriarchal blessings of the members in these countries. We saw for ourselves remnants of temple ordinances in some of the rituals in the Orthodox churches there. God loves all of His children and is mindful of every one.

I have been long acquainted with a group of Russian "Old Believers", and am amazed at the remnants of the LDS Temple clothing and the endowment ceremony that they possess. I have become very close friends with one of their Priests, and I am convinced that they are a remnant of the Lost Ten tribes. Wonderful people!

what is amazing is the TIME LINE....to see what other people were doing at any given time in history even when the Savior was on the earth. I know that we are all children of our Father in heaven so to me why wouldn't the Savior go to all nations after His death. How wonderful this story was to me. thank you

I was thrilled to read this. I also have wondered about other visits of the Savior to other tribles of Isreal. Thanks so much for sharing this.

Nice to see this republished. I'm perplexed by how frustrating it was for those who subscribe to anti-Mormon websites to deal with my account. They go off into tangents but can't address the central premise: a Russian Orthodox priest and one of the chief leaders of the ROC said what they said in the presence of several people who corroborate my account. No sense debating beyond "is Mark delusional or lying." Sometimes the first. Try never to do the second and the people with me would have called me out. Fact is, they knew the legend. It is part of their religion's lexicon. Is it proof Christ visited the ancient Russian people? Whatever. My proof of the Book of Mormon came from reading it in all its complexities, simplicity, metaphors and amazing spirit. My experience in Russia was fascinating for us and that picture, turned into a beautiful reproduction hangs in our home. If you would like a photograph of the original painting, just email me: [email protected] No charge. I'll also include the phonograph record cover.

Mark, another interesting report on your experiences in Russia. I have always believed that Jesus Christ visited all continents after His resurrection.

Marsha NewmanAugust 14, 2019

This is a beautiful, faith-building painting, showing that Jesus never was an exclusively Jewish figure. His presence was real for the people of this hemisphere and for others around the world.

Flora Mae PattersonAugust 14, 2019

I saw a photo on FB of a baptismal font on the backs of 12 oxen. This was from Russia.

This may also be the fulfillment of the scripture in III Nephi 16: 1-3

The comments were excellent....how can we print them too?

Sandra WhiteAugust 13, 2019

I have noticed for quite a while now that when I try to get the other comments, they do not show up.....please fix as those comments are important to us as well as the first 2 or 3 shown on the first page. Thank you. Love this article...yes, it is entirely possible that Jesus appeared to them as well as other lands and peoples. We do know that there are more golden plates like from which the Book of Mormon was translated....as at that time that was a common way things were recorded,....

Also read the chapter called "The Grand Inquisitor" in Dostoyevski's "Brother's Karamazov." He quotes a famous poem from the 1870's about Christ visiting Russia, and testifies that he knows it is true. This was written in the 1880's. It's common folklore in Russia. Archeologists there are still finding old caches buried below the permafrost in Siberia with old artifacts. One of these years they will find the Russian version of the Book of Mormon, I'm sure.

Loved reading this! thank you for sharing.

There is no doubt in my mind that this can be fact. I have often wondered who the 'other sheep' could have been. Surely there were more 'other sheep' than in the Americas. Perhaps as the last days become more apparent, more indications of who the 'other sheep' may be will come to light. Personally, I find this very exciting.

Jo AnnAugust 13, 2019

I found this article to be very informative and interesting. I wonder how many other places in the world have stories about Christ visiting them after His resurrection.

HalAugust 13, 2019

Thank you for this article. Does not surprise me at all. I pray for the day when addition scriptures are made available to us from Christ's "other sheep."

Marilyn BabcockAugust 13, 2019

I wish I could post a picture I found., it is a small version of a temple baptismal font with 12 oxen holding up the font. It is located in an old museum in Russia. It is amazing

ZacAugust 13, 2019

I've long believed that there were other Lehi's who were lead off into the wilderness and other people who were visited after Christ's death. Why would the Savior only visit the people in the America's? Why not the people of Asia, India, Australia, and the "Isle's of the Sea"? And how many other "Brothers of Jared" were there whose genealogy was lost when their civilization perished?

Juan ZurcherAugust 13, 2019

If they were part of the other sheep, it means that they are descendants of Israel. Which tribe? Is there any consideration about which tribe they might be from?

Linda PaulsonAugust 13, 2019

Amazing! Thank you!

Lori HatchAugust 13, 2019

Great story - thanks for sharing. Makes you wonder what other oral histories/""legends the people of the world pass down thru their generations.

Robin PrestonAugust 13, 2019

Absolutely amazing and delightful! Thank you for your story, I thoroughly enjoyed every morsel!

Justin MAugust 13, 2019

Thank you for sharing this! I think as we more closely embrace one another as brothers and sisters across the globe, more stories like this - sacred, deeply spiritual and cultural - will come to light. And perhaps more...

Beautiful!
