The hit musical Hairspray, set in 1960s Baltimore, has at its center a message about the importance of overcoming racial prejudice and giving people a chance even if they look different than you. Though the Broadway musical came out in 2002, that theme and the music that communicates it is as relevant today as it was then, perhaps moreso.

With that in mind, The Bonner Family recently released a vibrant, lively cover of Hairspray’s Run and Tell That. They partnered with the YouTube channel “Working with Lemons” to make the video happen who said:

“Run and tell them that Black joy matters and that diversity is beautiful! Tell them to support Black artists and to never stop fighting against racial injustices.”
