I can't tell you how many times I have started journals, then let them gather dust. I love making digital photo albums for our family each year, and these have become our memoirs as well, as I highlight key events, people, etc. I have also found the "memories" section of FamilySearch invaluable to record family stories (not the entire elephant) and some sacred experiences. The privacy settings allow me to determine when and with whom to share.

My wife suggested I just take some islands of time and just list bullets - whenever they occurred. It's the capture that is so important. Another time just take one - put the flesh on that skeleton and at another time, do it again. I can take care of order or other details later. She showed me how my smart phone will convert my talking into text!! Wow, it doesn't get any easier than that! (It took some time to learn how to talk slower for better text conversion accuracy - but what a miracle!)

Why do your life stories have to be woven together? For the past nine years (minus 2 Covid years) I have hosted a group ladies where we write our Life Story in short stories. We read our stories and discuss them - we learn from one another. Many of us are now doing StoryWorth - so our stories will be in book form. Much more interesting to read a short story than one long Life Story. Thank you for your article, very good, need more like it to prompt people to write their Life Stories

Thank you for the inspiration! I've always wanted to start a memoir but never knew how. Now I can begin to jot down all those stories I tell my friends that they find so interesting!
