Is it a violation of freedom of speech and religion in the local High Schools, (in Logan and Cache County school districts), where they are not permitted to put up any banners that say Merry Christmas, Santa Claus, let alone Nativity Scenes? Why can we not celebrate our holidays? We are glad to learn of different religions holiday's as well.

President Obama's statement is completely wrong, and shows his prejudice against religion in the public square. Leftists tout the "freedom of worship", but never "freedom of religion", because they do not want religion to influence public or social policy. But the Constitution says "Congress shall make no law . . . prohibiting the free exercise thereof." Part of the free exercise of religion is to bring it into the public square in order to influence society and government to do what we think is the right thing to do.

Thanks be to God for Scott and Maureen Proctor's educationg the Saints on a multitude of topics including 'freedom of religion.' Maureen has alerted all of us from BYU's law school 35 questions with answers on our collective religious freedoms, the first country in history to allow such freedoms even those in thefirst amendment. Religious freedom is sacred and is essential in an ordered society. No matter what the specific faith, James Madison and the first congress of the US as well as the states devised 10 amendments, which started as 17 from 189 suggested!! Thanks be to God that Mr. Madison was there just in the nick of time to narrow the process down and become not only the 'Father of the Constitution', but miraculously of the 'bill of rights' as well. God bless America, God bless our religious freedoms, and God bless the Meridian newsletter and magazine.

I remember hearing President Obama stating that people can believe anything they want in their churches but have to leave it there when they leave

Awesome article!! The fear of protest when we live our religion in public stifles our ability to live out our religion fully, and inhibits our efforts to share the good news of the gospel with others. Thank you for helping us understand our religious rights. This is enlightening and encouraging information!
