I strongly doubt he cut an arm off of more than one living combatant. Severing the brachial artery would lead to death in minutes, and Mormon clearly states Ammon only killed one raider with his sword. I think it’s more likely that he knocked most of their weapons out of their hands. This article does lead me to believe that they removed the arms of those who Ammon killed (mostly with his sling) to take to Lamoni.
