I used to be excited about Evan or other third party candidates. But, unless you can get HUGE numbers of people to vote for the same third party candidate, then your vote is just being wasted.
I get the idea that voting NOT for Trump or Hillary will make you feel like your conscience is clear, but if people are just throwing their votes away and the opposing candidate wins, will their conscience still be clear? Sorry to sound all doom and gloom...these are the same struggles we are all dealing with in this crazy presidential election.
To further my thoughts: If conservatives vote for ANYONE other than Trump, then they are voting for Hillary. If liberals vote for ANYONE other than Hillary, then they are voting for Trump. What would happen would be the "Ross Perot effect".

D&C98:9-11 We have an obligation to seek after good and honest candidates. Our lack of effort has led to our current corrupt government and the abandonment of constitutional principals and cultural morality. No one has mentioned the Constitution Party candidates - these are good and honest men. My vote will never be wasted if I have done my homework and vote my conscience. I choose not to promote or propagate corruption.
D.J. FullerOctober 13, 2016
Hey, we are all entitled to an opinion. PLEASE though - we Southern active Mormons have no problems with Trump and most of the people who are LDS in my state will vote Trump, as will many others. We are not electing a prophet or a bishop - he's a brash, sassy New Yorker that might have enough guts to fight against some injustice for a change instead of the roll-over lapdogs who claim to be conservative. To get swept up in the political "drama by media" is to participate in the fraud business. Smarten up folks! (a former LDS candidate myself)
KelliOctober 12, 2016
Trump's offense is not that he "said bad words." It's that he admitted to and condoned sexual assault. That's pretty serious in my book. Deseret News is singling him out because while there have been plenty of lying politicians over the years, never have we had someone who so openly engaged in immoral behavior and attitudes. He is a narcissist who will do what suits him with no loyalty to party or country.
Tom BurlesonOctober 12, 2016
Thank You Bro Stoddard. Very accurate comments. This is a gospel of love and forgiving. We're all different than we were 11 years ago. I can forgive a mote while there is a beam in my/our eyes.

I couldn't get past the first line. The majority of Americans agree with him? What bubble are you living in?
Richard MufflerOctober 12, 2016
the real problem is that if one votes for any one other than Trump it is a vote for Killery uh sorry Clinton
The WayOctober 12, 2016
Whether or not Ezra Taft Benson said it was wrong to choose the lesser of two evils; I agree completely with that statement. One should always vote for the "good" when the "better" or "best" choice is not available.
However, if there is no good choice, refrain from casting your lot with the evil.
CharlieBrown2292October 12, 2016
We already know what we would end up with if "Billary" were to come back to the White House: lies, scandals, cover-ups, conflicts of interest, an ultra-liberal agenda that would favor the LGBTQ and abortionists lobbies, and an all-out war against people with religious beliefs. Enough for me to give Trump a chance!
Harold RustOctober 11, 2016
I've been watching this play out from far-off Italy. It all goes back to when Mitt had exposed Trump as a crude con. If voters had demanded then he acknowledge his past and then prove he had changed, then these latest developments would be non-news. Unfortunately, every time Trump speaks he proves he hasn't changed. What a pity primary voters didn't demand more at the time.
HmmOctober 11, 2016
So, I guess we just ignore D&C 98:10?
Phillip HallOctober 11, 2016
It's simple. Deseret News knows that the democrats have nobody pro life, pro marriage, pro family, or pro constitution replace Clinton with. We have a chance, if Trump resigns, that he could be replaced with a decent candidate, like Cruz or Romney.
JulieOctober 11, 2016
Thank you for your words. I felt extremely upset that Deseret News would take such a stand and agree if they think Trump should step down then definitely Hilary should as well. This is the worst choice of candidates I've ever seen in my years of voting for a President. How sad! However, what are all these "dump Trump" people going to say when we are dealing with the mess our country will be in if Hilary is elected. The same as those crying about Obama...you elected him twice, now you're sorry!!!! It is especially sad that the news media has become so biased for the Left-Wing and people have become so gullible!!!

I agree! Is it worse to say bad things about people, or be responsible for death in Bengazi or be irresponsible with the emails you have been entrusted with, that have to do with national security.
Ned ScarisbrickOctober 11, 2016
I agree. At what point do we decide the qualifications for the president of the United States? Certainly the rap cultural in music is acceptable with lyrics that can not be repeated on public radio. You might reply that they are NOT running for the office of president. True, but does such activity and language merit our condemnation or is it just a form of expression?
The standard in todays world of "anything goes" needs our attention and correction not only for the election of public officials but within our publications that decide on their own what is acceptable and what deserves our condemnation.
Certainly the standards at the Deseret News are more in line with traditional American values than many publications but the line of demarcation they use in this instance is nuanced in favor of covert rather than overt objectionable behavior. The smell is just as bad in my view. Don't tip the scale of justice in this way.
Tim WelchOctober 11, 2016
For the most part, I agree with the perspective you share in your article. Sadly, we are faced with a choice of the lesser of two evils. However, there is a good chance, in my view, that Hillary has learned from, benefited from and been strengthened by her past experience. By contrast, Trump--whom I am convinced is the embodiment of a Narcissistic Personality Disorder--gets worse and worse. That his supporters tend to be primarily the "less educated" should be no surprise.
PatnzakOctober 11, 2016
Thank you for your well thought out article. I hope it is read by many who honestly seek to make the right choices.

Thank you! Your voice of common sense and admonition is much needed now. And thanks for clearing up the misquote of Pres Benson. The Clinton's behaviors and illegal actions are far worse than the recent news regarding Trump. But the media has us whipped into a whirlwind of distractions.
ShareeOctober 11, 2016
I won't vote for Trump or Hillary. My conscience won't allow it. I'll write in Mitt Romney. It may not make a difference, but my conscience will be clear.
As for cable TV, it is NOT all R-X-rated. I watch the cooking shows, DIY, HGTV, and the History Channel all the time. They are family-friendly (although kids might find them boring). Hallmark's channels are also family-friendly.
Therese GoletzOctober 11, 2016

That's kind of a vague, simplified evaluation of Evan McMullin. He is a stellar candidate possibility. Talk to someone who knows about him. Try Greg Bell.
