Thanks for your comment, Kathryn. Let me say a bit more. Part of the context of Mr. Kirk's statement is his history of similar statements that go well beyond hiring practices to things that sound awfully close to white supremacy. A few others (there are plenty to choose from, sadly):
"The ‘Great Replacement’ is not a theory, it’s a reality” (on Media Matters). “If I’m dealing with somebody in customer service who’s a moronic Black woman…” "[Juneteenth] threatens the fabric of our country." Etc. But again, there's never an excuse for political violence, which destabilizes society and hurts *everyone* on both sides of the aisle.

A quick response to Colin's assertion that Charlie Kirk engaged in "textbook bigotry." The quote Colin provided was accurate, but taken out of context. It was made in the context of hiring/promotion based on race rather than qualification.
I agree that Charlie could have stated his opinion in a way that was less likely to be misunderstood. But to say his quote was "racist" misses the point he was trying to make about the unfortunately real problem of some organizations hiring or promoting based on race rather than qualification.

Great and informative article. I understand and fully expected the kind of response we would see and hear from the church and church leaders and other religious leaders and good people. The Savior taught us to love not only family and friends but even love and pray for our enemies and those who hate us and despise us, it's a tough, hard concept, not easy to do. He also taught and warned that these things would happen and that in the last day's violence and hatred would be rampant just as in olden times, we teach and preach peace, love and kindness but make no mistake it is going to get worse and ultimately end in the Saviors second coming and only then will the world have peace.

Thank you very much for this article. It honored Charlie Kirk. It also was a great reminder of how to stand up to evil in peaceable ways & to study the Book of Mormon to better strategize against evil.
