Cameron: You may be right that many people will never stop eating meat in this life, but many people already have, including some general authorities. But don’t worry: no one will insist that you join us! Forbidding others to eat meat would be an extreme position, as Elder Packer notes. However, there is a big difference between commanding others to give up meat and choosing that path for yourself. The scriptures and our Church leaders do not forbid anyone from choosing to abstain from meat, and you might want to try it to see if you don’t feel better, physically and spiritually. If you are interested, you’ll find plenty of encouragement in the scriptures to give this a try. I hope you’ll consider it.

We will never stop eating meat, the Doctrine and Covenants and logic forbid it, Pres. Packer taught "Young people, learn to use moderation and common sense in matters of health and nutrition, and particularly in medication. Avoid being extreme or fanatical or becoming a faddist. For example, the Word of Wisdom counsels us to eat meat sparingly (see D&C 89:12). Lest someone become extreme, we are told in another revelation that “whoso forbiddeth to [eat meat] is not ordained of God” (D&C 49:18)." April 1996 GC

Just a note to let you know that I continue to read and enjoy your Word of Wisdom articles in meridian e-magazine. I believe that we are, already, living in the Millennium, and the day is almost here when eating the meat of animals will be as socially unacceptable as misuse of drugs is today--not saying that drugs aren't being abused today, but, soon, only the very foolish--like drug abusers today--will be eating the flesh of animals.
