Thank you so much for this article and your book. I was given a copy of your book when I was going through a very difficult time. It was truly and answer to prayer. It has helped me to understand that my depression is not a character flaw or spiritual weakness. it is a brain illness and I need to treat it as such. This information freed me from years of self condemnation and gave me so many tools and so much hope! Thank you Thank you!

The mind-gut connection as relating to what we eat has just been discovered in the last two years. Depression runs rampant I my family. My grandmother had electric shock treatments for depression which helped her. She was one of the saintliest women I ever knew. My mother suffered greatly, Also, my sister, and some cousins. Depression is a diagnosis no different than influenza, etc. We can improve our diets and exercise to help the depression medications work. Depression has nothing to do with "being weak," it has to do with recognizing the problem and then getting medical help sooner than later.
