I thought I would do something a little different for my weekly column. Instead of the traditional question and answer format, my contribution this week comes from a presentation I recently gave in a fifth Sunday setting in a local LDS ward. The bishop asked me to address the topic of pornography. He was aware that there are too many good men, women, teens, and children suffering the devastating effects of pornography.

Everyone is affected in some way by this modern-day plague. The list of those affected by it grows larger each day. There are those who are caught in the trap of seeking it out, their betrayed partners, family members, employers, friends, and leaders. Our willingness to learn the truth about this issue allows us to be more helpful to those who will inevitably call on us to assist.

Let us first make sure we have clean hands and pure hearts before we turn our attention to supporting those who have been swept away by this rising tide of filth. Those who struggle aren’t bad people. They need our strength, our support, and our understanding. They need us to be educated and courageous in our efforts to offer true support.
