How do we get better informed on the Constitution of the US? ... a place to start is to visit the Hillsdale College website, and then listen to their free online Constitution 101 course. I was very impressed.

I take issue with the statement: "The Constitution makes America." The Constitution is worthless if we abandon God. It only works when the preponderance of the people fear God. The cultural change we've experienced over the last 50 years is every bit as much to blame for our condition as the political change, and even more so if one considers that the political change was largely enabled by the cultural change. The answer to our predicament resides not in a political strategy, but in Nephi's response to the cultural corruption of his day, which was to preach the word of God and call the people to repentance.

Maurine, I met Scot and you at a mutual friend's house in Bristow, Virginia, a few years ago. This is a terrific political paper, deserving of broader distribution. You are absolutely correct when you single out the Supreme Court for criticism. To expand on your Obamacare example, another factor was when Justice Roberts opined that it was a tax, after the government argued that it was not a tax; and, it couldn't be a tax because taxes originate in the House and must clear the Senate. Yet, neither congressional act occurred. You are also spot on in your discussion about the Constitution--it is all but lost. Without respect for and adherence to our Constitution we are not really America. The Constitution makes America. Is it any wonder that doctrinally we accept the Constitution as an inspired document? By the way, I, too, consider the Book of Mormon to be a political handbook, in addition to it its other features and purposes, which are several.

Well constructed and thought out explanation of the importance of a constitutionally-centered Supreme Court that adjudicates the law of the land and not legislate from the bench. Kudos to Miss Proctor.

Thank you for a wonderful article. Pointing out the similarities of the events preceding the coming of Our Savior in Book of Mormon times with where we are today. Thank you for the insight as to how we got here in the first place and for those who have "ears to hear" a pathway to preserve some of our freedoms while we still have them. We need to stay educated and remain awake to what's going on around us at all times and remain vigilant.

Great article! I appreciated the education. I admit I have slipped into the cultural philosophies of our generation in my understanding of the Supreme Court. But how do we change this? I would agree with the earlier comment by Linda Hyde - I'm not anxious for the appointments that either a Gadianton Robber or a King Noah would bring forward. I'm excited to see what a Captain Moroni would put forward.

This is wonderful; however, it is NOT a good reason to vote for Trump. As a friend of our son observed on Facebook, "The Supreme-Court-justice argument goes both ways. The way I see it, if you vote for Trump, you get King Noah and the judges he selects. If you vote for Clinton, you get the Gadianton Robbers and the judges they select. Not much of a choice."

Thank you. You pointed out the importance of Trump's vision of the Supreme Court. Yet, Utah is full speed ahead to stop Trump and get Hillary elected.

How about the corruption also rampant in Donald Trump?

Herm OlsenNovember 2, 2016

This is precisely why Utahans should support Hillary. Romney was correct in his scathing indictment of Trump. And the U.S. Senate (including Hatch and Lee) is violating the Constitution every day that it ignores its responsibility to vote on a S.Ct. nominee.

Very good and well thought our article. Thank you, A good reason to vote for Trump.

Thank you for this outstanding reminder of what is at stake in this national election. You outlined specifically what Hillary said and will do in nominating judges to the Supreme Court to follow her own set of standards. It was startling to me also that she didn't even try to cover up exactly what she would do if elected. I wish you had mentioned Trump's remarks. He said he had already proposed the names for Supreme Court judges, all of which have proven that they will abide by and follow the U.S. Constitution when he becomes POTUS. Just this one issue will affect our children and grandchildren for the next generation on forthcoming decisions from this Court. Are people paying attention and listening? I hope we survive the corruption, rampant in our government!
