I don't have a testimony of these changes. Oh goody; a council every month--a great opportunity to get in everyone else's business. The rest, fine, I suppose. It's good to review GenCon talks. But First Sunday now, ugh.

Greg CranerSeptember 17, 2017

If one does NOT read directly from the conference talks, but instead just uses them as a topic and uses your own words, it would be like having an Apostle in your class and not letting him speak.

I trust the change will be as successful as we make it. With faith in our leaders and a willingness to jump in with good intentions I can see a great many advantages. As for the photo, it very well have been my wonderful Memphis ward, looked absolutely real to me. BTW, if you enlarge the photo that isn't a name tag. Looks more like a program or handout folded up like a fan-also a familiar sight in any RS.

I hope that those who present these three monthly lessons from the Conference talks don't just READ those Conference talks to the Sisters and Brothers in their Relief Societies and Priesthood Quorums verbatum. If that is the plan, I hope that we can just listen to the originals via video recorders, as there is nothing more boring than listening to someone re-read a General Authority's talk from General Conference. Either give the lesson from your own words, or revert to plan B above and then discuss the talk!

I don't think that's a Relief Society meeting pictured. The woman on the far left appears to be wearing a name tag. It's certain not representative of LDS demographics.

why aren't the Melchizedek Priesthood quorums and the Relief Society meeting together on the first Sunday of the month in one council to discuss relevant and timely ward and gospel issues, rather than having separate meetings?

genecSeptember 7, 2017

why aren't the Melchizedek Priesthood and Relief Society members coming together to meet as one council, rather than having separate councils?

I agree with GrMaJackie. I love being a Primary teacher but I miss being a more active participant of the "Adult Ward".

An interesting change! Possibly the Primary teachers will have to be released more often, so they can be participants in the council.

I'm wondering how this new forum teaches doctrine or encourages someone to come unto Christ. My mind goes back to the words of the Lord in the revelation given to Joseph Smith, "Say nothing but repentance unto this generation;........(D&C 6:9) I guess I'll have to wait and see how many times the council mentions repentance.

So does this mean that every fast Sunday most of us will just have to go home 3rd hour because we are not part of any group. I love RS and our sometimes lively discussions. Will be sad to not go once a month. I look forward to being with my Ward family on Sunday, will be sad if this is true.

So does this mean that every fast Sunday most of us just have to go home after SS because we are not in any presidency?

Yes! Yes! Yes! Thanks, Bob, for pointing out the difference between "council" and "counsel." We need to get that right, especially now with this new change. Council - a group. That would be High Council, Ward Council, and now the 1st Sunday council in RS and PH. Counsel - give advice, discuss. The Bishop's two helpers counsel with him (give him advice and discuss things), hence they are the 1st Counselor and the 2nd Counselor. The Bishop's Counselors (advisors) are members of the Ward Council (a group). No wonder speakers of other languages think English is hard!

This is a great thing the General leaders of the Church are implementing for the Melchizedek Priesthood and Relief Society meetings. Lots can be done. This is a great way to help with the quorum or group brotherhood we are supposed to have. For the sisters, a great sisterhood. Everybody, one way or another, will need to be involved, even if it is that the member of the group is being helped by the rest of the group. In our meetings, we will act as either a quorum, group, or Relief Society council made up of the members of the group, and we will counsel together and give counsel, and we will be edified together. The council is the group, counsel is what we give when we speak and share ideas and teach gospel principles to each other.
