As I understood it from my reading ... the 3 held a heavy stack of something ... and the 9 only saw the stack ... they were covered with a cloak or ???!!!! They were told the stack was the golden plates. ???!!! source: "Rough Stone Rolling" ... paintings also show Joseph turning pages and studying the plates but he looked into a hat with holding the peer stones (urim thummin) to translate them. ????!!!!!

Good article. One correction. The Three witnesses were also allowed to handle the plates. They just didn't mention it in their formal written testimony. See Rhett James, "The Man Who Knew," Page 160, Also Ricks ; “ The Case of the Book of Mormon Witnesses,” Page 10
