How many are aware that more and more evidences are being found that verify the Andes model for the Book of Mormon? http://2bc.info/Misc/Evidences.pdf

Pres. Ezra Taft Benson: âMany great events have transpired in this land of destiny. This was the place where Adam dwelt; this was the place where the Garden of Eden was located. It was here that Adam met with a body of great high priests at Adam-ondi-Ahman shortly before his death and gave them his final blessing, and the place to which he will return to meet with the leaders of his people. This was the place of three former civilizations: Adamâs, the Jaredite, and the Nephite. This was also the place where our Heavenly Father and his Son, Jesus Christ, appeared to Joseph Smith inaugurating this great and last dispensation. âThe Lord has also decreed that this land should be âthe place of the New Jerusalem, which should come down out of heaven, . . . the holy sanctuary of the Lordâ (Ether 13:3). Here is our nationâs destiny! To serve Godâs eternal purposes and to prepare this land and people for Americaâs eventual destiny, he âestablished the Constitution of this land, by the hands of wise men whom [he] raised up unto this very purpose, and redeemed the land by the shedding of bloodâ (D&C 101:80). âNo man, however brilliant and perceptive, shall have a complete perspective of our nationâs history without this understanding and conviction. He must be persuaded by Godâs truth if he is to obtain a true and complete picture of our nationâs origin and destiny. Secular scholarship, though useful, provides an incomplete and sometimes inaccurate view of our history. The real story of America is one which shows the hand of God in our nationâs beginning.â ( https://www.lds.org/ensign/1986/10/news-of-the-church/president-benson-visits-church-historical-sites-in-new-york?lang=eng

I too, wish that this article was based on more research and really looked at the primary source, the Book of Mormon and what it has to say about the "Promised Land." Sorry, I feel that this article falls short. I do feel that there is a feeling that as more research comes forth that minds will be opened to the truth about the Place!

There is no way that the United States was the area of the Book of Mormon. It is simply impossible. The land area is far too big and numerous key elements do not fit. The clear, obvious location of the Book of Mormon lands is Mesoamerica. No other region even comes close to matching the book's description of its land area, culture, weather, settlement patterns, etc., etc. We have very probably identified the original Hill Cumorah in Mesoamerica. Unlike the Hill Cumorah in New York (which was named after the hill in Mesoamerica--a common Hebrew custom), the hill in Mesoamerica matches the geographic description, and there is archaeological evidence of a massive ancient battle at that location.

I agree with Jason and Rodney. And, we have all if the JS papers now. Why isn't this article citing Letter 7 ??

I agree with Jason, there are several Book of Mormon scriptures(I have a list) that just scream the United States and not any other place. In the end it is this testament of the Savior and the truth of the Book but I will never in my own mind picture Central America as the place of the Book of Mormon.

If we go to the primary source, which is the Book of Mormon, then a couple of scriptures worth pondering are: 1 Nephi 22:7 and Ether 13:4. Other than the United States of America, I can't think of another nation that has been so dominant among the Gentiles since the opening of the last dispensation. Additionally, Wayne May was done a lot of research on this topic, and his Youtube videos are very informative. Obviously, what is presented in these comments is not definitive, but it is something to consider.
