It is well known that when a man gets frustrated with his job or his boss, he will come home and kick his dog. People who focus on attacking the Church and it's institutions are often those who are not pleased with their own lives and do not find a better way to deal with their frustrations than attacking the Church.

Thanks for you excellent response the usual anti-Mormon mantra of the Salt Lake Tribune. It amazes me, one who has seen the relationship of the Deseret News, Tribune and LDS leaders since the 1950's. If it wasn't for the LDS Church the Tribune wouldn't even exist. Decades ago and even more recently, advertising is shared, distribution is shared and the relationship with the publisher and Chief Ediitor in the 50's was close friends with then President David O. McKay. Today, much, but not all of their reporting is shallow, uninformed and anti-Mormon. But, as a former journalist in the late 50's and early 60's who provided high school sports stories for both the News and the Trib and all TV stations, I've found modern day journalists are very shallow in their reporting and DO NOT research thoroughly a complete story. Their writings fit their political agenda or biases of life. Integrity in journalism is, for the most part, non existent. Sadly, I even shudder reading some Deseret News stories that wreak of non investigative, serious research journalism. The author of this Triib diatribe of racism on the BYU campus is queen of shallow journalism. And, those who want to believe without investigation believe every word. That brings power to the writer! Lies suddenly become truths to the shallow minded reader. Thanks for an excellent response to this baseless Trib article on racism at BYU!

If this were any school except BYU it wouls be a no issue.

Good grief Mike Griffith. I suspect that most conservative Mormons will become increasingly overt about attacking anyone who disagrees with their world view and subverting the reputation of the Church with their ignorance, labeling and name calling. It is comments like yours that provoke the hate filled comments. Get a mirror.

Very good article. I suspect that most liberal Mormons will become increasingly overt about siding with our enemies and attacking the Church.

Mr. Campbell makes some good points and has given us some well-researched observations. However, I must agree with "frequent reader" above. Campbell needs some proof-reading help. Incomplete sentences and missing words left me trying to piece together his intended message in certain parts of this article.

The folks at the S.L.Tribune need to put down their papers and look out their front door. If they do so, they will see, in front of them, an example of a successful minority. It has apparently escaped their notice that the Mormons ARE a minority (one of many religious minorities in this country). The fact that Mormons are not regarded as a "politically correct" minority tells me more about the hypocrisy at the S.L. Trib than the demographics at BYU.

The SL Tribune's disinterest in fairness and honesty in relation to BYU and the Church is a direct reflection of the Mormon Liberal Culture. Since earliest 1970's Sunstone/Dialogue days, Mormon Liberals have routinely used their effusive constructs to cast doubt on the Faith and its Called and Ordained.

No content comment, just noting that this article is hard to read. Some editorial language assistance would be beneficial.

"Gotcha Journalism" is like "click bait" and it seems to be running rampant across the country. After this last years political circus there isn't really a single publication or TV network that I trust to tell the whole truth. It's a sad commentary on our free press and proves that yellow journalism is still alive and kicking. It's really hard to know where to turn for honest information and news.

Thank you Joel Campbell for writing what so many of us were thinking about headline driven Tribune reporting. Sadly it seems that too often "BYU bashing" is really a cover for "Mormon bashing".

The SL Tribune's disinterest in fairness and honesty in relation to BYU and the Church is a direct reflection of the Mormon Liberal Culture. Since earliest 1970's Sunstone/Dialogue days, Mormon Liberals have routinely used their effusive constructs to express contempt for the Faith and its called and ordained. Peggy Fletcher (Stack) was a founder of Sunstone magazine. Go figure.

Great article! I've noticed the same attitudes with the tribune. Disappointing to say the least. Honestly through out my adult life I have always noticed that BYU alumni have been the most accepting and welcoming of diverse cultures. And I was never a BYU fan and still favor the Utes in the sporting arena. But I cannot deny that BYU graduates are stellar individuals.

Thank you. I stopped clicking anything associated with the Tribune, as I noticed a pointed effort on their part to fan the flames of their "Wild West of hate". They need to be called out each time these tactics are employed, & they are often, towards others not of their ilk. Maybe readers will become bored w/their click bait once they see what a repetitive calculation it is on their part, producing little substance, just formulaic dribble.
