In 2013, Salt Lake City had its first superhero, sci-fi, and fantasy convention, and that thing exploded out of the gate. With an estimated 80,000 attendees, Salt Lake Comic Con had the largest-ever turnout for an inaugural convention of its kind. Now, the week before tens of thousands of Latter-day Saints flood the downtown for General Conference, many of those same people will join their friends and neighbors of other faiths, trading their dresses and suits for spandex and capes. In commemoration, here’s a look back at the convention’s record-setting first year (photos by C.J. Jackson; video courtesy of KJZZ Movie Show).
