It’s 1987. I am standing in our small New York City apartment, likely doing “mom-related” things, on behalf of our two very young children.

Out of nowhere, a little voice inside me whispers. You know this voice-it’s the kind one that prompts us to help others, to forgive, and to do a multitude of other good things. It’s the opposite of the voice that accuses and condemns us. We always want to steer clear of that mean voice.

It was the gentle, honest, and loving voice that had my attention. “Would you please help in the fight against pornography?” it whispered.

Huh?

Why me? I had only heard the word pornography maybe a handful of times in my life, and I had never known anyone involved with pornography. I felt like a clueless recruit.

Still, I said “OK” to no one I could see with my eyes. I knew this voice, from lots of previous requests and guidance. I trusted it.

The internet had not yet been invented,

I ordered materials by mail, on how to help.

I prayed for the cause.

Decades of digital flurry then flew by. Now we were raising eight children.

One day a family acquaintance shared that he had been addicted to pornography since age seven. What on earth? He had been on the computer when he found it, and he didn’t know what to do. He was curious and scared. He went further and further down this dark hole. As you would expect, his addiction was destructive and misery-inducing.

And preventable. I knew then that I needed to write a book for very young children, helping them to know what to do, should they ever encounter digital dangers like this.

I thought of bishops, counseling youth of today who struggled with pornography issues. What if they had been taught what to do while very young? Could they have been spared later addiction? I think that is very likely.

I wish that this book, or one like it, could be in every home, and every school.

We need to start a conversation with children, to help them know what to do. The monsters aren’t under their beds-they are on phones, and on computers and iPads. We have to help.

Please consider ordering this book for your little people, and their families. We can save kids, from suffering now, and in the future.
