As we continue to mourn and pray for the victims and their families from the Grand Blanc Michigan Ward, we have found several GoFundMe pages, where we can actually help with expenses for the newly widowed and medical expenses for the newly wounded. If you know of additional GoFundMe pages for our brothers and sisters in the Michigan ward, please send that information to us, and we will post them as well.

Read these appeals for help and think generously.

GoFundMe accounts have been set up for some of the victims, whose families are left with large bills in the wake of this disaster.

On Sunday, September 28, 2025, a violent and senseless attack struck The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc Township, Michigan. A gunman rammed a vehicle into the building, opened fire, and set the structure ablaze, resulting in multiple fatalities and injuries.

Among those caught in the chaos were two emergency medicine residents—young physicians training to serve their communities—who were present at the church. Not only were they victims, but they also sprang into action, helping others amidst danger, smoke, and confusion.

They now face substantial physical, emotional, and financial challenges:

  • Medical expenses for treatment, rehabilitation, and ongoing care
  • Disruption to their training and careers

On September 28th, my brother, Greg Mikat, suffered life-threatening gunshot wounds and is currently in the ICU. Greg was attempting to stop the horrific attack at his church when the assailant shot him three times. This has been a devastating and unexpected tragedy for his family.

Greg is fighting hard, but the road to recovery will be long, with surgeries, hospital stays, and months of healing ahead. While Greg focuses on recovery, the family is also facing enormous challenges—medical bills, time away from work, and the daily expenses of keeping life moving during this crisis.

From Kylie Olsen, Pierre’s niece: Pierre Dery is a victim of the Michigan shooting that took place at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on September 28th. Pierre Dery was the second one out of the building to go and help what he thought was an accidental car crash, only to be met by gunshots. Pierre sustained a gunshot wound to the abdomen. So far, he has already endured two surgeries and is still recovering in the hospital with another surgery needed in the coming week.

He has a long road to recovery ahead. All funds will go to covering his medical expenses, therapy, and other unexpected costs. He is a fun and loving father, grandfather, brother, and uncle who is the jokester of the family. We are so grateful for all of your love and prayers to Pierre and family during this time.
