Robert, I think you got the point very well. And there has never been a time in recent history, that I am aware of, when so many people have been so unwilling to compromise or even listen to each other on the most basic issues. Whether we are dealing with fellow LDS, fellow Christians, fellow Americans, or fellow human beings of any nation or ethnic group, we can do better. A lot better. And the author's closing observation reminds me of President Hinckley's counsel that we look at life as a journey, not a destination: how we handle the journey has everything to do with what destination we arrive at in eternity!

We are surrounded by the "'ites" we have created mostly through our lack of empathy, charity, and phariseeism.

How awesome it will be when we all do this, because as was said it will eventually happen!

This was a most excellent article--well thought out and so applicable. I really appreciate your perspectives! I see the polarization of those in the Church who don't see things the same and it is sad. Your advice would go a long way to improve communication and feelings among these divergent groups.

Great article! When I was teaching 'The Gospel and World Religions" I coined a phrase to use as a motto for the class: "Differences polarize: Commonalities unite!" At the end of each sessions we would look for commonalities. Try it and surprise yourself.

Beautifully thought out and said. Thank you for the guidance. I particularly like the ideas at the end, and think they are very insightful.

Great article! You have a tough and trying job.

Thank you. Very thought provoking and a great guide. Something we all need.

I am not sure I have got the whole picture or even the full understanding of the article. I think the 15 point present are a rally good way to approach any situation and worth remembering. However I don't know if I understand the article enough to even explain to myself let alone to someone else. I am writing this note to se if I understand to some very small degree what was said. 1. should not judge the situation before we understand the people involve. 2. do I know or have any knowledge of the people or event I am trying to judge. 3.We can still be friends even if we have different opinions 4. Do not define the event or situation as good or bad , each person involved has an opinion and it is valid. 5. I have my point of view and you have yours is there a way to find the middle ground? 6. Respect of each other and we are all God s children. 7. Will I be able to solve a situation from reading the article I don't think so as I am not really sure of what was said and will need more understanding and clarity, but I will from the reading look at each event or situation different. Does this sound right?? comment
