Thank you so much for those inspired words, they came along in a very special moment for myself.

This article came along just at the right time in my life. Sometimes we pray for help to understand and we don't think we are heard. I do know that the Lord puts people (Articles) into our lives that help us and in fact, answers our prayers. Thank you, Sister Proctor, for taking this scripture a little deeper so we can apply it to us. I am grateful!

What you are seeing in Nephis Psalm is what it means to have a broken heart, to be born again, what it means to be redeemed. This is the pattern ALL of us need to follow. At some point, God will bless us with an awareness of our wretchedness, our brokenness. This is the crucial point where we either turn to the arm of flesh, ourselves, or we turn to God. Nephi did not say, "I" am going to control my thoughts. He did not say "I" am going to repent and keep the commandments better. He said, " 31 O Lord, wilt thou redeem my soul? Wilt thou deliver me out of the hands of mine enemies? Wilt thou make me that I may shake at the appearance of sin? This example is repeated many times in the scriptures. Read an identical account by Paul in Romans 7. It happened to Lehi, Nephi, The people of king Benjamin, Alma, Enos, Lamoni. Its not something we LDS commonly hear or teach, but we need to ASK for redemption! Ask for mercy. Then Christ will change us. Alma 34:17 .... call upon his holy name, that he would have mercy upon you; 18 Yea, cry unto him for mercy; for he is mighty to save.

These are ancient truths and on some level I was aware of them, but having them brought cogently and specifically to my attention at this particular moment constitutes a tender mercy in my life. I cannot thank you enough.

What a marvellous article. I am a counsellor and CBT therapist and can clearly see the spiritual overlay described here and how it can benefit unhelpful thinking patterns of members who struggle with the issues described. Thank you for writing it and publishing it.
