Thank you Jane for this profound article as well as the rest of your work! I finally get it and am ready to not look back. Much love and gratitude!

I hate to say it but you need to eat meat, were commanded to in the D&C 89:12 Yea, flesh also of beasts and of the fowls of the air, I, the Lord, have ordained for the use of man with thanksgiving; nevertheless they are to be used sparingly; 13 And it is pleasing unto me that they should not be used, only in times of winter, or of cold, or famine. You shouldn't be eating all the cheeseburgers and fried chicken however, you should include meat in your daily diet I.E. cold cuts, tuna, lean steak, deer, elk, chicken, turkey etc... You don't need an excessive amount that's not healthy, however you do need some meat. Make it a goal to eat healthy, by eating at home. Try using your garden to produce some of your fruits and veggies. Don't get caught up in the Mc Donalds and KFC's. They're not good for you. Eat a healthy breakfast lunch and dinner with little snacks in-between and you should be good. Remember your body is a temple of God.

I hate to say this but I researched a little in the Scriptures while I agree with eating whole foods, and vegetables (abstaining from processed food, sugary foods, fried foods) I disagree with the adage of not eating meat. In D&C 89:12-13 it states "Yea, flesh also of beasts and of the fowls of the air, I, the Lord, have ordained for the use of man with thanksgiving; nevertheless they are to be used sparingly; 13 And it is pleasing unto me that they should not be used, only in times of winter, or of cold, or famine." Being someone who studies and practices healthy nutrition I would say you need meat in your diet. Reason being your body needs protein to build lean muscle mass. Now I'm not recommending you have a hamburger every meal of the day that's ludicrous. What I am saying is you should add some chicken or tuna to your salad. Have a sirlion steak with your dinner. Eat a balanced diet. I agree with your philosophy of not looking back once you've committed to more fully living the word of wisdom. I would argue its better to change your identity to someone who views their body as a temple of God. Thus driving you to want to eat more healthy, exercise regularly and live a covenant life within the rules and bounds of the word of wisdom. If your a women go to the temple and see how beautiful the temple is think of your body as that temple and how beautiful it is. How important it is to wash it, maintain it, and only allow clean things within it. If your a man think of how strong and awe inspiring the temple is. Now think of your body as that temple how powerful it is, how strong and immovable it is. In order for a temple to be immovable it needs to be built with the appropriate materials, just like your body needs to be fed the appropriate type of nutrition, and do appropriate exercise and maintence to stay physically strong. Brothers and sister don't be fooled by the ways of the world. Eat a healthy wholesome diet of fruits, vegetables, grains, and meats. Try eating solely from your garden or farm. Stay away from the filth that fills our world. Take care of your temple given you by God.

Just in case someone wants to know the reality of producing a 'WFPB' diet - check this out: https://www.washington.edu/news/2016/01/13/fewer-than-1-in-25-seattleites-can-really-eat-locally/ Maybe only righteous people in Seattle will benefit

Jane, your comments remind me of both Elder Holland and Elder Maxwell cautioning us against trying to live in Zion while maintaining a vacation home in Babylon. It's really hard to try to serve two masters as the Savior warned. I really like the suggestion of changing our identity to that of a person who eats WFPB only. Not unlike our need to be reborn and bury the man of sin. There are so many parallels with gospel teachings because this truly is God's counsel and desire for us.

I recently spent five days with my "meat and cheese loving" son's family. They respected and honored my lifestyle and acknowledged it has done wonders for me. However, they are not ready to make that change. I was happy to discover that I didn't feel deprived as I ate my baked potatoes and salads and fruits. Thank you, Jane, for your articles and commitment to helping us.

This article will truly help me to quit vacillating in my attempt to eat a healthier diet, only to give in to temptation for days or even weeks at a time. Having such vivid imagery of Sodom and Gomorrah will squelch any desire to stray. Thank you so much for such a thoughtful, well-crafted article.
