As a trained historian, I naturally become uneasy when people bring Religion into politics. From the Crusades to radical Islam and from Torquemada to Isis there is much to point to that is bad. Granted, there is much that is good. As a Civil Rights activist of the 1960's I can only point to Martin Luther King, Jr., Ralph Abernathy and the other members of the SCLC as great religious leaders who helped make a much more just society.
We are still paying the price for our history of racism and opposition to the Civil Rights Movement as well as the insanely stupid and weak arguments used in Judge Walkers Court on Prop 8.
Tread thoughtfully and carefully. Don't listen to the right wing nuts of the world. Remember if you blindly accept them, Obama was born in Kenya, the US military is going invade to Texas this summer, ISIS is in Juarez and Chinese troops are or will hiding underneath closed Walmarts also in Texas.

This quote will help all to understand the marriage battle: it is much more than meets the eye:
"Gay marriage is a lie,” announced gay activist Masha Gessen in a panel discussion last year at the Sydney Writers’ Festival. “Fighting for gay marriage generally involves lying about what we’re going to do with marriage when we get there.” [Applause.] “It’s a no-brainer that the institution of marriage should not exist.”
Gessen was merely echoing a message from an LGBT manifesto of 2006 called Beyond Same Sex Marriage. The manifesto is a blatant rallying cry to bring about a post-marriage society, one in which there is no room for state-recognized marriage."
Please know that many proponents in the SSM battle are unaware of this themselves. This is the end game, however.

I attend the local Tea Parties (Patriot) meetings with awesome LDS speakers (most of the time) and I can't get other members to attend. It seems they just don't want to be involved or think it won't matter. Our Apostles have told us we need to be involved. Sitting on the fence isn't going to get anything done.
I get frustrated because we can't make announcements at Church.
