Yes, Jesus sanctifies and redeems. Way too many LDS think that they must first make themselves holy before they can be forgiven and changed by Christ. And frankly much of this comes from being taught erroneously that repentance is not complete without completely conquering our sins. Well if that's the case then no one can ever repent of all their sins. Scriptural examples of repentance do not indicate a complete self conquering of sin. Repentance is the broken-hearted recognition of ones sins, and a sincere pleading for more righteousness and for mercy. Almas repentance didn't take a lifetime. Neither did Lamoni's, or his fathers - it happened immediately.
