I would like to share an experience. While a Bishop, I held interviews with three sisters in rapid succession, all who complained to me of their husband's dominating natures. Each commented that their spouse used the verse (Moses 4:22) to justify their position to 'rule'. It really troubled me. In going to the temple a number of weeks later, the word 'rule' was used in this context (narration has since changed). At that time, the word 'rule' was forcefully impressed on my mind. It was all I could think about. In the next session, the word "rule" was used to define "...the greater light to 'rule' the day...." What an impact! I began to ponder on how could the sun 'rule'? The following ideas coursed into my mind: 1. The sun provides us with light. 2. The sun provides us with warmth. 3. The sun provides the stimulus for all life to grow. 4. The sun holds the earth in a constant path (orbit). My thoughts on being a husband: 1. I should endeavor to invite the light of Christ into my life and thus my home. 2. Warmth implies feelings of love and kindness. 3. I should make a great endeavor to encourage my wife and children's development by promoting education, skills, friendships, etc. 4. My leadership should be consistent by keeping the Sabbath holy, leading in regular scripture study, Family Home Evening, family prayers, obeying the law and so forth. The experience changed my perception of the word 'rule'. To realize the greatest benefit, I have to be a thoughtful and active contributor to my family's well being. Great experience in learning to follow impressions. I enjoy a positive view of the word 'rule'.

As in all covenant marriages, Adam was to preside. Eve was a companion equal to and worthy of a covenant Priesthood holder. They had different responsibilities but common aims and goals for their family, just as we do today.
