There is a flip side to the opiod crisis too. Many of us use it daily to make life manageable. We use it, not abuse it. Without it, most of the things myself and others do for ourselves would be impossible. The daily struggle with pain is very real for us. After the abusers of opiods are taken out of the mix, personal abusers and those that can't correctly follow written directions or have other none related medical problems compounded by this medication, very few deaths are a direct cause from opiods. The crisis has made the suicide rates for Veterans increase and it's only getting worse because of the pain we suffer. Until medical marijuana is available, (yup, I have used where legal) people who needn't suffer will be helped. Maybe then the "medical professionals" will figure it out and treat accordingly. Until then, Veterans and chronic pain sufferers will have one of the highest suicide rates of any group.
