I'm so happy to read Sue Maxwell's comment. Thank you, Sue - for promoting the truth of the character of a righteous man.

It has taken many years to get to this point where DNA will be used for all family finds. I believe that our Heavenly Father is in control and will raise more brothers and sisters in the wonderful field.

In the book, The Real Thomas Jefferson, by Allison, Maxfield, Cook and Skousen, which is based upon original records, there is an entire chapter on this scandal that was created about Jefferson and Sally Hemmings by James Thompson Callendar.. He was known as "the most scandalmonger of the day," and loved to create them about his political enemies. In the news he attacked Jefferson by saying that Jefferson had had two children by Sally Hemmings, which to Jefferson, who was know to be an upright Christian was deeply hurt, and "felt that the was a fair mark for every man's dirt." He did not respond to the newspaper scandalous remarks, as he felt that by defending himself he might appear to be guilty. He instructed his Cabinet members to remain silent also; A month later, Callendar drowned himself in the James River. Jefferson told his colleagues that his nephew, Peter Carr, was well know to have been sleeping with Sally Hemmings, and that it was well known at Montecello. This slander on Jefferson's character is still being promoted today, and while I like the article, I wish you would not continue to perpetuate this incorrect information. The refernces are in a chapter called "A Season of Slander." beginning at page 227-235, and there are many sub-references. Thank you.

If you read "The Real Thomas Jefferson," you will find out that it was Jefferson's nephew that had the affair with Sally Hemmings. Everyone in the White House knew it; the slander was caused by a political enemy of Jefferson, and Jefferson thought it was not worth responding to publicly, as the facts were known. Otherwise I have seen this woman's work and it is interesting.

DNA testing is so exciting. As soon as I can, I would like to be tested, too. Right now it's a bit on the expensive side. I do believe there is an inborn "feel" for certain aspects of our ancestors' lives. I know I have a strong pull towards Southern Utah, where so many of my people struggled and proved their faithfulness. It was especially strong whenever I visited the ruins of my grandfather's house in Bluff.
