I can definitely relate. I sent my 18-year old son off to the Mexico MTC today and bawled all the way home from the airport and I'm still crying...I might have to turn in my man card!

Well as I read your comments I could feel your emotion as I have a son who is leaving for Brazil Oct 9. I agree these youth are in a different mind set and their feelings are joyful but I do not think it is self pity, tears are an expression of our love and joy over the decision to serve. I think we need to give ourselves the opportunity to shed tears and not feel guilty. I know I will cry like a baby because I love my son and I am so proud of him. I don't feel self pity at all,

After dropping my only daughter off at the MTC just this past Wednesday (5 weeks after we dropped off my oldest son at the MTC), I really needed to read this today. Thank you so much for this reminder to look outside ourselves. It truly heals and brings joy.

I can relate!!! That sounds EXACTLY like me on July 31...All of August & Sept. have been unusually busy months of service for me. A loving Heavenly Father knows the weight of missing our baby girls to our challenges is a burden too great to bear w/o the gift of being able to focus on others. I am grateful for the win win situation of a mission for missionary & family.

sounds like it is time for both mom and daughter to move into a different relationship.
