Maureen you were inspired to write this insightful article. There are so much treasure in the Book of Mormon. ..so many lessons for us today. Thank you! Love Meridian. Magazine.
This is probably my favorite of all of your articles! Thank you for your valuable insights. We all need to remember to choose moral leaders because when we don't God will no longer protect us.
The fate of the nation has already been sealed and the Lord knows the outcome. What we are called to do and should do is assist or be the angels in gathering the wheat from the tares.
I do not like the decline of the moral fabric of our nation, which I fought for. However, I realize that the treasure laid up in Heaven is the work we do for the Lord. While Mormon and his son, Moroni, saw the decline of the Nephite nation they looked for souls to save from a field nearly overrun with tares.
Great article with this summary it is easy to share this hope with other people in this day and time people are actually coming to hear words of hope
A lovely article, but I would add that it is important to keep a sense of balance and proportionality. For example, seeing all of politics strictly through the Book of Mormon can lead to some odd and inappropriate applications of Captain Moroni.
I enjoyed reading this article. Interestingly, just after reading this, I flipped over to Quillette, a writer's blog site I follow, and this article was just posted. The writer provides an indepth literary analysis of the growing Birthstrike Movement that is sweeping across Europe and among the 20 somethings' here in the US. It is real and is/will transform our society, economically, socially, and politically, at all levels. https://quillette.com/2021/01/20/birthstrike-the-movement-to-end-all-movements/
Even though I know it isn't possible, my heart always yearns for a different ending every time I read the Book of Mormon. It hurts when I read of a people who had been given so many choice blessings, and yet they fell into such deep sin and eventual self-destruction. As we witness many today who are turning away from God's laws, I am seeing a spiritual numbness taking place. True followers of Jesus Christ need to be a shining, positive influence more now than ever. Those who are seeking the light will be drawn to what we have when we live the gospel and reach out in love and kindness. Our light will shine even brighter in contrast to a darkening world. I am so grateful for the counsel of our Prophets and Apostles, and also the assurances we have that the Church will stand, and there will be a righteous people prepared to receive the Savior when he comes again. Consistently reading the Book of Mormon is essential to help us press forward in fulfilling the great responsibilities the Lord has given o us to prepare ourselves and those around us for this great event.
Maureen, what a wonderful and inspired article! Your message as well as the summary are spot on for us today and especially for me. I also followed your link and enjoyed listening to the entire talk from Neal A Maxwell which was truly prophetic and timely even back in 1978 but really for us today. His remarks in the same talk on foreordination were also important words for us all to hear and remember especially today. Thank you!
Your words speak to my soul! This article and the one you wrote for Independence Day, have reached inside of me and shaken me. Your website has been instrumental in helping me to focus through that scriptural lens spoken of, to Follow the Savior and to commit to building a Zion society, starting in my own home.
I want to be as smart and as inspired as you when I grow up.
Thank you for sharing these important truth, Sister Maurine!! It is so sad to me to see what is happening in our country. Thank Heavens for the Missionaries and for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints!!
This hits the truth 100%. I had not been focused on the right things, so now, I am off of social media and most news. I realized that this world is temporary and what is truly important to me is Eternal. So grateful for the Gospel, that steers my life. Blessings!

If a nation values anything more than freedom, he will lose his freedom. And the irony of the matter is, if it o
is wealth that it values more, it will lose them too!
Excellent article with profound truths.
Thank you so much for your insight and thoughtful wisdom. We don’t know what to pray for anymore—just blessings that our freedom will be preserved!!
Maureen, what a great article! We are fighting for righteous principles. When, we, as a nation no longer support God and his laws. When we fail to elect those who value God's laws. When we divide ourselves and teach hatred of any kind. When we are religiously intolerant. When we silence voices who disagree with us. That pretty much sums up a nation ready for destruction.
So true! Wonderful words.
This is such a great reminder full of Book of Mormon examples. How blessed we are to know/remember these things! Neal A Maxwell has some prophetic insight speaking back in 1978. Wow, he describes our day in which we live 40 years previously. There is no doubt in my mind of the truthfulness of the Lords Prophets and Apostles. This article was really well written.
You nailed it. I am amazed at good Latter-day Saints who will not liken scriptures unto our day. We must awaken to our awful situation because the Book of Mormon gives us the blueprint for our future if we do not see things as they truly are. Thank you for a great resource in helping others to see.,
