Sometimes we think we know who we care about and live with. This Family Home Evening game might just surprise you! Time for a bit of FHE Fun…and a whole lot of family love.

Opening Hymn: #194 The Family (Children’s Songbook)

Opening Prayer: By invitation.

Emergency Preparedness Moment: With cold weather, health, and economic crises surrounding families, what brief emergency skill would you like to share with your family today? You never know: it could save your life!

Happy Moments Time: This can be quick, but fun. Who has a happy moment from the week to share? A triumph? A success, no matter how small? Take just a few seconds to celebrate, and the memories you create will be long-lasting! Everyone likes to hear “job well-done.”

What’s Your Favorite Scripture? What scripture hit home the most during private scripture study from this past week? Even the smallest of tykes—if consistently looking at even little Bible stories—can have uplifting words to share. It need not take more than a few minutes, but sometimes these discussions can have the greatest impact during Family Home Evening.

Activity: Sometimes it’s the small things that touch our hearts and help us to love one another. Here’s a simple activity you can share with your family that’s easy, free, and spontaneous:

1.      Pass out a couple of slips of paper to each person and a pencil. Invite family members to write one thinking question per each slip of paper. An example might be, “What is the hardest thing you’ve ever had to do?” “When were you the most frightened and how did you handle it?” “What is your happiest memory with the family?”, etc.

2.      Once everyone has written their questions on their papers, place them in a bowl or a basket. Then take turns drawing a paper out of the bowl and answering the question. Each person should have as many turns as there were papers handed to them.

3.      Invite the family to listen with their hearts and to see with their eyes who they really have before them in each person. Each one is a valued son or daughter of God. How can the family now during the week continue to value one another and his or her benefit to the family? How could the family extend this same kind of love and listening to friends and associates in the community, perhaps as a silent Christmas gift given to all met in the hallways and highways of life during this special season?

Close by sharing your love for your children and any spontaneous testimony you feel impressed to express.

Closing Hymn: #189 Family Prayer (Children’s Songbook)

Closing Prayer: By invitation.

Refreshments: While refreshments aren’t necessary at the end of each Family Home Evening, they do provide a time for the family to “let their hair down” and to enjoy each other’s company. What refreshment could you make that you could also take to someone this evening to let them know they are loved?
