I do not know a kid that does not like to make a handprint in cement. I know as a little kid you would also see name in the new cement. There is a wonderful way that you can do this at home with kids and it will last a lifetime.

Handprint Stepping-Stones

Large plastic bucket

1 (40 pound) bag of premixed concrete (requiring only water)

Water

Shovel or Large Stick(to mix cement)

1 (16-3/4 x 12″ x 3 “) foil pan

Board (for leveling cement)

Petroleum jelly

Mix enough cement and water in the bucket to fill the foil pan, following proportions listed on the bag. Pour the cement into the pan. Level the cement and smooth the surface with the side of the board.

Cover the child’s hands with petroleum jelly and press them into the cement, then sign and date it. You may also want to have your child draw a picture in the cement as well as write their name and age.

When the cement sets, turn the pan over and the block will pop out. Use the cement blocks as stepping-stones in the backyard or as garden art to preserve your child’s handiwork. You’ll be amazed how often children will place their hands over the in prints to measure their growth.
