A missionary serving for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints recently passed away. Church spokesman Daniel Woodruff released the following statement:
Our hearts are heavy as we share news of the passing of a young missionary.
Elder Antonio Schwenke, age 19, of Vailima, Samoa, passed away Friday due to complications from malaria. He had been serving in the Sierra Leone Freetown Mission since May 2019. We are deeply saddened by this news and pray sincerely for his family and loved ones as they mourn his passing and remember his life.

This is heartbreaking news. We send or love, prayers, and deepest sympathy to his dear family. Anyone who has ever had a missionary of their own far from home will have a glimpse of the pain that his family is going through. We are so grateful for our Savior's atonement, the restored gospel and our knowledge of the plan of salvation. We are so sorry for your great loss.
