“I wish my boyfriend Matt could be here,” said American Idol contestant and Latter-day Saint Johanna Jones as she prepared to perform in the next round of auditions during Hollywood Week on the show. “He’s the most supportive, loving, awesome guy I’ve ever met…I think he’s probably the one, but we don’t need to tell him that quite yet…”

But apparently Matt didn’t need to be told. Just after receiving a standing ovation from the judges for her vocally unique and soulful performance of “Wicked Game”, Matt took the stage next to a visibly shocked Johanna with an important question to ask.

“Johanna, you’re the love of my life. Will you marry me?” The immediate and ecstatic ‘yes’ was nearly drowned out by the emotional meltdown that judge Katy Perry was having over the romantic display.

Matt said he took six exams the previous day and drove 11 hours just to be there. “No matter what happens, I’m going to go home smiling tonight,” said Johanna.

But Johanna didn’t have to go home, smiling or otherwise, because Monday night’s elimination saw her staying on to the next round of the show that will take place in Hawaii. Tune in to American Idol this season to follow her progress.
