Elder Gerrit W. Gong of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles and his wife, Sister Susan Gong, will be the featured keynote speakers at RootsTech 2023 Family Discovery Day.
Elder and Sister Gong will speak Saturday, March 4, at 11 a.m., according to ChurchofJesusChrist.org. Their message will be broadcast on RootsTech.org, RootsTech YouTube, Broadcasts.ChurchofJesusChrist.org and the Gospel Library app.
What is Family Discovery Day?
Family Discovery Day is a one-day event during the three-day family history conference designed to help Latter-day Saints discover and celebrate their family heritage.
The entire global family history event runs March 2-4 and offers both an online and in-person experience. Registration is available at RootsTech.org.
Elder and Sister Gong
- Elder Gong was the first Asian-American to be sustained as a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, on March 31, 2018.
- His ancestors left southern China in the late 19th century for work in the United States. His mother met the missionaries as a teenager in Honolulu, Hawaii. His father joined the Church after attending Stanford University, where his parents met and dated.
- Elder Gong was born in Redwood City, California, in 1953.
