In addition to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announcing an expanded phase of operations for proxy baptisms in certain reopened temples, the status of four South America temples has been impacted because of changing COVID-19 pandemic conditions locally.
The status changes are the latest as the Church continues to reopen temples in its careful and cautious four-phased process, after halting operations at all temples worldwide in March 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
As announced Monday, March 15, two temples in Brazil and one temple in Chile are pausing because of local pandemic conditions and precautions. The three, which had been operating in Phase 2, are:
- Campinas Brazil Temple
- Santiago Chile Temple
- São Paulo Brazil Temple
Meanwhile, one temple — the Curitiba Brazil Temple — is resuming Phase 2 operations after having been paused because of COVID-19 conditions.
Also, the First Presidency announced on March 15 that 14 temples will move to a new Phase 2-B as early as March 29.
