Last year I sent a 'thank you for your service' note to a friend who had served in Iraq and Afghanistan. I commented about my own service being completely during peace time and that I didn't hold a candle to what he and his buddies had done. One of his buddies responded, "Because of you there was peace during those times." I still choke up a bit because of the kindness of his words.
