I think this is a great initiative. I will be listening to these podcasts as I am able to make time. I was bothered by what felt, to me, like Laura and Thomas dismissing the Jesus of faith during the last few minutes of the podcast. For me, the only reason that the historical Jesus matters is because of what the Spirit and prophets, and other scriptures teach me about the Jesus of faith. While it would be interesting to know what his favorite kind of fish was, or whether or not he liked olives, that doesn't matter. What does matter is that he is strengthening me...today, through his spirit and through priesthood ordinances; that he is resurrected and communicates to a living prophet. I think that Thomas said it's important to know that Jesus died for our sins but we should go deeper and get to know the historical Jesus. I guess I would reverse that and say, it's important to know the historical Jesus, but we should go deeper and get to know the Jesus of faith, through the Holy Ghost.
But again, thanks for starting this. I look forward to hearing more.

The music is only part of the teaser clip at the beginning and the clip of next week's episode. There is not music throughout. Please do listen to the main podcast, which is without music. We will work on keeping the music truly in the background.

I am so gladdened that these podcasts will involve our faithful scholars. It's important. Not all (LDS) scholars are faithful, and some will only grandstand arcane historical sawdust or liberal theory-making. But I have great regard for our faithful's. Among them are our scholars who are part of the Joseph Smith Papers Project and History of the Saints productions.
