On the whole, this is a fabulous article. However, there is one thing I'd like to bring to your attention. There are a far greater number of saints who are running faster than they have strength. (I know it was arbitrary and intended to show that the group is a sneak percentage.) I was one of those who ran faster, until a doctor cautioned me against it. I was basically killing myself trying to serve too much. He indicated that I was far from alone in this reguard. I think it's dangerous to not address this, because it's literally killing our faithful. I took me years and this doctor to convince me I was running too fast. In my eye, I still wasn't doing as much and serving as well as I could. I struggle with this daily. While we are the minority, we are not unicorns. Our number is greater than you'd think. People don't know this, because it's not in our nature to speak up about this issue. But, the percentage is probably closer to 5 percent, depending. Why does this matter to you? I'm not certain it does. I just feel the need to shed light on this issue, because I think the notion that were unicorns is part of the problem. I feel badly to take away from or nitpick anything in this article. Your points are all spot on. I'm just trying to shed light, not distract. Best wishes.

When I talk to others about tithing I tell them that before I paid a full tithe I was always broke. After I started paying a full tithe, I was still broke, but no more than before...and other blessings keep coming my way.

I gave a lesson today in RS where I shared a personal crisis of faith and shared some very personal information in hopes of helping the sisters recognize that all sisters are desperately in need of visiting teachers that come. Away from the strong prompting from the Holy Ghost to share, I regret my words. Remember sisters, it is hard for teachers to share personal information. Let the authors, teachers, VT, presidency member know you appreciate it! Thanks for the great article! I desperately needed this today!

What wonderful counsel and comments you have made! Thank you so much :)

This actually covers the basic principals of the Gospel. There is no one person perfect in the Gospel. I have never found it to be restrictive or burdensome. When we all learn to work together for the good of the whole Church, that is what makes it wonderful. I live in a small area our ward barely has 100 members that come regularily, but we make the most of what we have-each other.

What a great article. I agree completely. We have an older son that decided our church was too "restrictive" when he was 17 he is still making choices at 29 that I never thought he would make. I love him anyway. He's my first born son and I will love him forever. I pray for him and his wife our little grand daughter that just turned 2 and the new little one that will be here next month. Love then unconditionally every single one! On the other hand I can't say I am happy about it. I will say it's very hard to watch him make choices that I know aren't good and that one day I know he will wish he hadn't made. I love this article because it reminds me of when I was a young girl and someone in our ward was extremely offended by something someone did. It iwas just silly and I can't imagine anyone being so hurt by the offhand comment made by someone else. That they just quit going to church over it. But.... I learned a valuable lesson my dad taught me. He always said "The church/gospel is perfect! But the people in it aren't!" I just rely on my testimony which of course is anchored by my Faith in God that has and will ALWAYS get me through hard times! Thanks Joni!

Your thoughts in #1 are SO true. I've learned that everyone in the Ward is NOT perfect...................except the Bishop! Our Ward recently received a new Bishop. From my perspective, he made a terrible error when I went to him for help - he left me hanging when I was in desperate need of financial help. It's been one of the hardest forgiveness processes I have ever learned from to forgive this man; similar to what you said about callings - WE are the ones that learn! Thank You!

Thank you for this delightful article – although it is a “Bulletin from the Ministry for the Bleeding Obvious” having this in print without Mum’s name on it, is a real boon. It is not just Mother waffling on again and therefore ‘believable’. Thank you once again – when we share the blessings always multiply.

Love this! Thanks!

Joni Hilton has not lost her marvelous talent in explaining things. My daughter worked with her in Tarzana Ward in California years ago. I was delighted to read this today. Such spiritual insight.

I certainly have been helped through the payment of tithing. I was out of work and near the end of saving. My wife and I were determined to test the principles of tithing we had been taught so we continued to pay and soon I was offered a job that I kept until retirement 27 years later. Most often the first noticeable blessing of paying tithing, when it seems too difficult, is the ability to be more frugal and do with less. Other great blessings usually follow.
