My father, a Montana farmer, had German prisoners help him raise sugar beets. His Swiss/German mother had taught him a little German, and my father spoke with the workers and gave them encouragement. Mother made stew and saw that they were well fed. After the War, several kept in touch with my parents.

Tears came to my eyes as I read this story. It brought back memories of many years ago when my family had German Prisoners come to our farm during WW II to work in the sugar beet fields. We truly are all brothers.

What a touching story. Even during the tragedies of War there are still those who are willing to help even the enemy soldiers.
