I have done a good bit of reading about fiat money and our financial crises, and find this to be a most interesting insight into that scripture and very thought provoking. Recently, though not in a good financial situation myself, I have thought about adding more food to my storage as I mostly eat raw foods, so I don't rotate.
In thinking of grain as a commodity to use for bartering, especially wheat, which I have stored, so many people, including myself, are now gluten intolerant. Yet, when I prayed about what to store, I felt that in an emergency the Lord would help me tolerate it. Using it for barter is a fascinating idea and I am going to think more about what you have said in making new purchases. I have been deeply concerned about the financial situation of this country and here is another aspect of it! The Book of Mormon is so very pertinent to today in more ways than we realize..

I enjoyed your article and I find it interesting that so many invest in gold and silver, neither of which have any real, intrinsic value except to make rings and electrical connectors, and fill teeth. How many lost a lot of money by panic buying those metals when they were at their peak value---and saw them lose so much value, so quickly. I have a pool full of water which will be much more valuable than gold in times of emergency when our water supplies could be shut off. After doing much research for my book 'The Constitution, Government, Politics and the Economy' I have full faith in our government and the Federal Reserve system which has done a good job of controlling our economy, and preventing another Great Depression. There are people out there with an agenda to subvert our monetary system. Nothing is perfect, but as long as we don't get suckered into investing in those so called precious metals or a universal monetary system, we will have pretty good control over our economy.
