While I truly enjoy this article, and generally eat this way, I don't think the connection between diet and cancer is well-founded. Some cancer victims that I know personally ate better than anyone else I know, but still got cancer. One of them lives out in the country, eats green, and is a superstar runner. It isn't fair to her to say that cancer is caused by an unhealthy lifestyle because she is amazingly healthy. Blaming diet is an oversimplification of this very complex issue.

This is just in time, Carolyn! I have been thinking about what I could eat for meals that would make me feel better and think more clearly, and here it is! Several years ago our whole family ate a vegan diet and we were all so healthy, but have become a little lackadaisical about it. Now I am ready to start again, so this is perfect. Thank you so very much.

You stated, "the lovely healthy soups, bean and rice dishes and veggie side dishes that we enjoy so much and that are so very affordable at home, are pricey side dishes when eating out. " However, I find my healthy side dishes are still less than what I was spending on meat-containing entrees. And since eating out is a social activity, I prefer altering my eating out choices to cutting myself off from friends and colleagues. You might even find some interesting new dishes. The other night I ate celery schnitzel--actually made from a slab of celery heart.

My family has been eating a plant based diet for the past 2 1/2 years. There is a lot more thought that goes into our meals. Most of what we eat is made from scratch. There are some foods that we would never have tried that we love now. Also it is amazing what you can do with a well stocked spice cabinet. The three things that helped us to make the change are the documentary Forks Over Knives, Dr Michael Greger who does YouTube videos about nutrition based research studies and a personal study of D&C 89.

Beautiful and right on. Each day brings further evidence that the Word Of Wisdom is inspired. Whether it is our personal physical and spiritual health, the health of our planet or our relationship with other living, sentient beings, the blessings of a WFPB diet multiply. Thank you ...

LOVE this article, Carolyn! Thanks for pointing out that a whole food, plant-based diet is a WIN-WIN-WIN solution: tastes great, costs less, and the result is a dramatic increase in better health

Excellent points. Change is so hard when we're so surrounded by the less-healthy choices. But thanks for nudging us in the right direction.
