These two men were not Jesus apostles but were followers.

Thank you for this thoughtful and beautifully written article. There is much to be pondered as we each look inside ourselves and evaluate our individual relationship with Jesus Christ. As always Rynna, you are amazing! Thank you for being a light in a sometimes dark world.

Excellent article, and you are right on with your thoughts of our lives. Arlo

Such an amazing article! I will definitely be using this for a future talk or lesson. I love your reasoning and ability to say it so clearly ... simply believe! Look with eyes that want to believe, that want to see, that want to testify. The ending is my favorite part of this article. Invite the Lord and His Word into our homes. Beautiful! Truly beautiful!

Beautifully thought out and reasoned

Yes, you appropriately summed up life when you said, "...the dusty road of mortality..." Because of that dust we vaguely see unless, as you taught us, we fervently seek His face and light. I love your gift of words and your willingness to share thoughtful wisdom. Blessings to you.

When we see with our hearts instead of our minds wonderful things happen. Thank you for your insights!

Thanks. Very insightful. Gives one thought.

Thank you Rynna for this incredibly inspiring article. So important that we try and see/feel the Savior's presence in our lives. And I believe you are 100% correct when you say that in order to find Him we must be looking for Him. In one of the comments someone said that Mary didn't recognize Jesus at first either. But the reason she was able to, and very quickly, was because she was seeking Him. This is a keeper.

Claude L Jones Please note that Cleophas and Cleopas are two different people. Very good article.

Rynna, thank you for this beautiful article. Your insight is amazing as we celebrate the Resurrection of our Savior.

I really enjoyed reading this beautiful article. It's so important to actively seek Christ and keep our hearts pure so that we can recognize his hand in our everyday lives.

Thanks for the insight. You have given many of us cause to reflect and revisit unexplainable experiences in our own lives. As I look back on this last year, I see where you are right about our just not recognizing the Lord, even though he is by us. I see evidence of that now, and in hind sight. Thank you for opening my eyes.

PaulaApril 18, 2014

Thank you for giving us cause to think what we would have done in that same situation and even ask the question "what is the level of my faith?" Another beautiful article.

SherryApril 18, 2014

What a deeply thought provoking, beautiful message and understanding for us to carry in our hearts, this day, and always. I love you and your wonderful gift that allows you to put your thoughts into words.

Thank you for this wonderful article and for answering a question that has bothered me for years. I know there are some interesting explanations from other authors, but it is your conclusion and reasoning that rings true to me. I can't thank you enough and also my thanks to Meridian for posting this excellent piece.

First, let me write that I went to a University Library one day to study this episode. I came away with some insights I did not have previously. Why is it that we think this was 2 men? I believe there is internal evidence that shows this was not two men, but the Savior's own Aunt and Uncle. This was more a miracle than your description. Mary's sister is mentioned in John 19:25. Of course she was there to support her Sister in this nightmare. In Luke 24, Cleophas was named as one of the disciples. I believe he walked with his wife to Emmaus which makes the inability to recognize Him more astonishing, but explains how quickly they did when He prayed. The other thing I learned is the real lesson of this encounter. The word Emmaus is the Greek name of an older, now vanished Hebrew town name that means "waters of healing" or, "waters of restoration". One might say they walked with the Redeemer on the Atonement road.

Hi, Rynna. I love your insightful articles. When Keith and I taught the missionaries, we used the Church film with this title to help them understand how to teach by watching the Savior's example (so that the investigators' hearts burned within). Another reason they may not have recognized Him, is, in their sorrowful agony, their heads hung down; they failed to look up!

Thank you Rynna for this amazing article. We have debated this for years, however this is one perspective we never discussed. Thank you for your incredible insight. I believe you are right on the mark.

A great reminder that the Savior is often with us and we are so distracted we don't even notice. Keeping my focus on my blessings and opportunities, instead of my problems, fears and self-doubts, helps me recognize his presence more in my life.

Candy GroatApril 17, 2014

Wonderful article, Rynna! I'm printing it out to share it with my husband at this very moment.

ScottLApril 17, 2014

Another great article from this thoughtful author. Note that Mary Magalene did not immediately recognize the risen Savior either until He spoke to her at the tomb -- see John 20: 11-17.

Patricia HernonApril 17, 2014

Thank you Rynna for this insightful and timely article. It is beautifully written. The message is one of great promise. May we all recognize our Saviour when we see Him again.

Rob ViviersApril 17, 2014

Thank you Rynna! This is a wonderful thought provoking article.

Great writing as usual, and a very interesting take on not being able to recognize the Savior. Very good supposition and explanation of what we need to do to see Christ.

RebeccaB.April 16, 2014

Wonderful article in time for Easter. I have always had the same question about how Christ's disciples did not recognize Him. This offers an interesting perspective that we can apply to our own lives today.
