I concur with and appreciate Marie's comment. I love this day of "gathering" and pondering on the most important gifts--faith, family, and friends. Thank you for providing the historical perspective of this day.

So great to be reminded of the first and REAL reason for one of my favorite holidays. Not football. I love history. I love our brave pilgrims. I love how you reminded us all of this amazing remarkable true part of our history. Thanks once again talented Rynna.

Never realized Squanto was the real deal! I always thought he was made up ...not really sure why I thought that. Great to know he was the real deal. Thanks for the great article! We too will "raise a glass."

Great article, Rynna. I'm pretty sure my father was descended from Pilgrims, too. Happy Thanksgiving!

Rynna If I remember correctly, the Pilgrims ended in Plymouth instead of Maryland or Virginia because they were blown off course by a large storm and were not able to find their way. All of which makes it even more amazing there were indians there that spoke English. Happy Thanksgiving dear friend.

It is important to be reminded of the events that helped form this country into a great nation. The First Thanksgiving is a wonderful example of charity towards our fellow man. It is nice to know people still value the traditions for which this holiday stands.

Thank you Rynna, your article is so beautifully written. As a descendant of the Pilgrims it really touched my heart. I have so much to be thankful for.

My wife and I are not mormons but after reading this can't help but agree that Divine Providence was involved. Thanks William for your comment. What an honor to know they are your ancestors. We will definitely "raise our glasses" on Thanksgiving Day. Great article!

Thanksgiving is the only day we all celebrate regardless of religion nor race.....to many it's more important than X mas ----and no gifts to think nor worry about

William HomerNovember 26, 2013

Thanks for writing this, Rynna. As a descendant of William Brewster and other Mayflower Pilgrims, I've written about this and read it to my family every Thanksgiving. There's no doubt that God was in the details here.
