I can't remember the quote exactly, but wasn't it Hugh Nibley that said something to the effect that the earth is a living being? And when 'man' becomes wicked enough the earth's 'immune' system generates plagues, pestilences and natural disasters much like our bodies develop immunizations when we get infections.
