I'm so glad that the General Authorities have said that the atonement heals not only physical problems but mental health illnesses as well. I am looking forward to getting to know my parents again without their mortal issues. Safe guard your eternal life by dealing as best you can with your mortal problems. Get help. God has provided it for you.

Here's to both the moms and dads I know who suffer from depression who have sucked it up, and done what they should, and done what was needed inspire of their own troubles--- instead of playing the 'poor me' card. I know many of them intimately and I am inspired and humbled by them. Then there are the other kind. We have a member in our Ward who has milked her Depression and Anxiety for all it was worth, hijacking unnecessary attention, interaction, requiring others to submit to her special wants (calling them needs) etc etc. Some of them are ridiculous and inappropriate-- but no one dares refuse her or explains this to her for fear of hurting her feelings. We are finding we have to more and more try to find a way to explain to the ward kids why this one person gets to do things or have things at church by that no one else would get away with or get a pass on. Getting more ridiculous every week. Admitting Depression may be helpful and doing what you can about it may be helpful. But it is also used as an excuse for some to seek inappropriate special attention and accommodation. Makes me admire more than ever those I know (and have known) who just quietly bare their afflictions and trials from Depression and suck it up for the sake of their loved ones.
