Today’s lesson is on John 1, the last of the four gospels to be written, and one that is crafted directly for members of the ancient church.

References used in podcast other than John 1:

John 21:25

And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written.

Mark 16:1

And when the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, had bought sweet spices, that they might come and anoint him.

JST John 1:19

No man hath seen God at any time, except he hath borne record of the Son; for except it is through him no man can be saved.

JST John 1: 21, 22, 26

21 And he confessed, and denied not that he was Elias; but confessed, saying: I am not the Christ.

22 And they asked him, saying: How then art thou Elias? And he said, I am not that Elias who was to restore all things. And they asked him saying, Art thou that prophet? And he answered, No.

26 And they asked him, and said unto him: Why baptizes thou then, if thou be not the Christ, nor Elias who was to restore all things, neither that prophet?

President Russell M. Nelson, “Jesus the Christ: Our Master and More”, Ensign, Apr. 2000. https://www.lds.org/ensign/2000/04/jesus-the-christ-our-master-and-more?lang=eng

President Russell M. Nelson explained the meaning of the Savior’s title “the Word”: “In the Greek language of the New Testament, that Word was Logos, or ‘expression.’ It was another name for the Master. That terminology may seem strange, but it is appropriate. We use words to convey our expression to others. So Jesus was the Word, or expression, of His Father to the world”

Alma 32: 27, 28

27 But behold, if ye will awake and arouse your faculties, even to an experiment upon my words, and exercise a particle of faith, yea, even if ye can no more than desire to believe, let this desire work in you, even until ye believe in a manner that ye can give place for a portion of my words.

28 Now, we will compare the word unto a seed. Now, if ye give place, that a seed may be planted in your heart, behold, if it be a true seed, or a good seed, if ye do not cast it out by your unbelief, that ye will resist the Spirit of the Lord, behold, it will begin to swell within your breasts; and when you feel these swelling motions, ye will begin to say within yourselves—It must needs be that this is a good seed, or that the word is good, for it beginneth to enlarge my soul; yea, it beginneth to enlighten my understanding, yea, it beginneth to be delicious to me.

JST John 1:1

In the beginning was the gospel preached through the Son. And the gospel was the word, and the word was with the Son, and the Son was with God, and the Son was of God.

D&C 93:21

I was in the beginning with the Father, and am the Firstborn.

Neal Maxwell, “O, Divine Redeemer”, Ensign, Nov. 1981,8. https://www.lds.org/general-conference/1981/10/o-divine-redeemer?lang=eng

In intelligence and performance [Jesus Christ] far surpasses the individual and the composite capacities and achievements of all who have lived, live now, and will yet live.

Moses 1:33

And worlds without number have I created.

Moses 7:30

Millions of earths like this.

Mosiah 3:8

All things from the beginning.

Doctrine and Covenants 88: 7-13

7 This is the alight of Christ. As also he is in the sun, and the light of the sun, and the power thereof by which it was bmade.

As also he is in the moon, and is the light of the moon, and the power thereof by which it was made;

As also the light of the stars, and the power thereof by which they were made;

10 And the earth also, and the power thereof, even the earth upon which you astand.

11 And the light which shineth, which giveth you light, is through him who enlighteneth your eyes, which is the same light that quickeneth your aunderstandings;

12 Which alight proceedeth forth from the presence of God to bfillthe immensity of space—

13 The alight which is in all things, which giveth blife to all things, which is the claw by which all things are governed, even the dpower of God who esitteth upon his throne, who is in the bosom of eternity, who is in the midst of all things.

3 Nephi 28:6-9

And he said unto them: Behold, I know your thoughts, and ye have desired the thing which John, my beloved, who was with me in my ministry, before that I was lifted up by the Jews, desired of me.

Therefore, more blessed are ye, for ye shall never taste of death; but ye shall live to behold all the doings of the Father unto the children of men, even until all things shall be fulfilled according to the will of the Father, when I shall come in my glory with the powers of heaven.

And ye shall never endure the pains of death; but when I shall come in my glory ye shall be changed in the twinkling of an eye from mortality to immortality; and then shall ye be blessed in the kingdom of my Father.

And again, ye shall not have pain while ye shall dwell in the flesh, neither sorrow save it be for the sins of the world; and all this will I do because of the thing which ye have desired of me, for ye have desired that ye might bring the souls of men unto me, while the world shall stand.
