Significant renovations are being made on the plaza on Temple Square that sits between the Church Office Building, the Church Administration Building, the Joseph Smith Memorial Building and the Relief Society Building. This represents the next phase in the larger renovation project that began on the Salt Lake Temple more than a year ago.

The renovation is primarily necessary to fix the leaking that has come from the circulating water for the fountain and other areas, surrounded by trees, flower gardens and grass. The leak has persisted for some years and endangered the parking structure underneath. The new plaza will feature a new and better waterproofing solution as well as new green space and landscaping that will enhance the visibility of the temple.
