“And in the end, yes, I did have a God moment.”
Those are the words of Danielle Tumminio, a female Episcopalian priest, as she describes her experience attending the open house of the new Kansas City, Missouri Temple, for the Huffington Post.
Many of Tumminio’s descriptions of the temple and what temples are for are some of the best I have ever read. She very succinctly, accurately, and simply describes everything she saw from the murals, the symbolism, even the tinkling of the chandelier.
“It was in these rooms, and the final Celestial Room, where I caught a glimpse of God…
“Our guide asked us to be silent and said we were welcome to sit wherever we liked and take a moment to pray. So I sat down on a sofa that seemed to envelop me, folded my hands on my lap and closed my eyes.
“Like Dante, who saw God face to face but had no words to describe the encounter, I have few words to describe what I felt in that moment.”
In a world where every day there is a new, inflammatory, incorrect, and flat out blasphemous article written about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, it is welcome and refreshing to find such a well-written, open-minded, and accurate story about the Church. Especially in such an unexpected and unlikely place as the Huffington Post.
